Special Days And Ways To Celebrate (With A Difference!)

Did you know that today, February 17th, is Random Acts of Kindness Day?  Watch out for it trending on social media – and more importantly, why not make an extra effort today to be kind to others whether it’s family members or complete strangers?  We’ll be joining in to make a difference, too!

At Peach Perfect, we like to celebrate every day, not only traditional holidays and festive events.  We were spoilt for choice in selecting our favourite days and ways to celebrate, but eventually shortlisted the following four with special appeal:

Our first choice is National Old Stuff Day on 2nd March. No-one seems to be quite sure how this originated but there are three key themes – appreciating the beauty and purpose of vintage objects, recycling your “old stuff” to give to charities, and taking the opportunity to make changes in your life by doing things in a new way.  So if you haven’t kept to your New Year resolutions, here’s a great opportunity to start again!

We couldn’t resist including World Penguin Day on 25th April (see above) – all adorable seventeen species of them, ranging from the Little Blue Penguin to the four feet tall Emperor Penguin.  They’re particularly vulnerable to climate change and are on the World Wildlife Fund’s list of animals under threat that you can help support.  So why not adopt your very own penguin?  https://support.wwf.org.uk/adopt-an-animal/

Let’s hear it for International Music Day on 21st June!  There’s a range of free music events taking place throughout the UK and amateur and professional musicians can participate.  All sorts of venues will be taken over for the day, ranging from art centres to bandstands and from town squares to school halls.  To find out how to get involved, see https://musicday.org.uk/ and join in with music lovers from over 120 countries.

We’re going out of this world for our final choice – and a day’s just not big enough!  World Space Week was created by the United Nations in 1999 and this year it’s running from 4th – 10th October.  The theme is “Space unites the World” and it looks as if the celebrations will be bigger and better than ever before!  Last year there were nearly 800 related events in the UK, led by activities at the National Space Centre, so watch this space … https://spacecentre.co.uk.

What do you think about our shortlisted special days (and week)?  We’d love to hear about your favourite days with a difference and what makes them special for you.  Maybe we could create some new days to celebrate next year, too!

And in the meantime, if you’re looking for present inspiration for someone special, or a gift that’s a little bit different, why not take your time to browse through our range of gift collections? You can find gifts for all special occasions in our online shop.
